At just 24, Charles Yockey has already mapped an extraordinary professional journey—policy analyst at the Manhattan Institute, M.Phil. graduate in Political Thought from Cambridge, Hoover Institution Director’s Award winner, and now an incoming Schwarzman Scholar bound for Tsinghua University in Beijing. Before leaving Europe for Asia, he will reflect on the year he spent in Budapest and how that experience deepened his understanding of Hungarian society, its place in Europe, and its perspective on the wider world.

Drawing on his passions for political economy, diplomatic history, and financial markets, he’ll share the lessons he’s carrying with him to China—and why young people everywhere should be encouraged to seek out cross-cultural experiences that broaden their understanding and enrich their perspectives.

Charles Yockey is a policy analyst within the Manhattan Institute’s Centers for Legal Affairs and Constitutional Studies. In Budapest, he is a visiting researcher within Mathias Corvinus Collegium’s Center for International Law. In the past, he has worked in both the public and private sectors and he intends to attend law school in the United States. He aspires to promote greater transatlantic understanding by facilitating collaboration between the public and private sectors as a diplomat, financier, or policymaker.

His partner in discussion will be István Péter, international relations coordinator at MCC.
