The outbreak of war in Iran has radically altered the Middle East’s geopolitical balance. The war has further destabilized the region with consequences extending far beyond the immediate region. While it is easy to be distracted by surface level military engagements and strikes, serious observers must look past these to understand the broader strategic restructuring taking place.
At this event, former ambassador Yacov Hadas Handelsman will argue that systemic changes within Iran and its sphere of influence represent a critical global juncture. He will analyze the unfolding situation by drawing on his broader diplomatic experience, including his past assignment as Ambassador. Addressing the economic and social consequences of this conflict, from the potential distruption of vital maritime trade routes, regional instability and impact on the energy market, he will make a case that this conflict will pose a severe challenge to Europe.
Join Yacov Hadas Handelsman as he explores the intricate realities of the current landscape and considers how European leaders must adapt their strategies to navigate a world where seemingly far away conflicts can have direct impacts on European stability and way of life.
His partner in conversation will be Drd. Ferenc Török, associate lecturer at Sapientia University, Department of International Relations and European Studies, and project manager at MCC. His research areas include international institutions, political theory, public administration theory, and minority rights.
Moderator: Balázs Len, law student and researcher of the MCC Univeristy Program.
The discussion takes place as part of the MCC Budapest Summit.
