Learning Romanian in school has been a challenge for Hungarians in Transylvania for decades. The Ladins of South Tyrol have developed a specific methodology to successfully learn the official Italian and German languages, in addition to their mother tongue. Join us on our next event of the Transylvania Lectures series.

Our invited speaker is Dr Paul Videsott, Dean of the Faculty of Education of the Free University of Bolzano/Bozen (UNIBZ) and editor-in-chief of the European Journal on Minority Issues. In his presentation, he will discuss the success of Ladin language learning and the challenges faced in a region with three official languages. He will discuss the similarities and differences between the language teaching methods and the situation of Hungarians in Transylvania and Ladins in South Tyrol with Dr István Horváth, sociologist and professor of the Hungarian Sociology and Social Work Institute at Babeş-Bolyai University.
