With a major war on the eastern reaches of Europe, war correspondents are back in demand. Our next guest at the Transylvania Lectures series will be Julius Strauss, visiting fellow at MCC, who covered five major wars and multiple revolutions ranging from Bosnia to Iraq to Afghanistan to Chechnya. Our guest talks about what it is like to work on the frontline and the dilemmas and difficulties the war correspondent faces.

Julius Strauss graduated in literature, philosophy and politics from the University of London and served for 15 years as a war correspondent. From 1996 to 2000 he was a correspondent for The Daily Telegraph in the Balkans, worked in Sierra Leone, Afghanistan and Iraq from 2000 to 2004, and as a Moscow correspondent from 2002 to 2005. He was also present at the 2004 Beslan school siege and the 1990 Black March in Marosvásárhely/Târgu Mures. He has been retired since 2006, working as a wildlife activist and running a bear lodge in Canada.
